lights at home?
Dear Parents,
As the holidays are fast approaching and we seldom get to see the sun I thought it would be nice to bring some light into our classroom. If you have some old (working) holiday lights that you are not using would it be possible for you to donate/loan them to the class. As we do not have anything in our classroom anything would be greatly appreciated :)
Maybe this is going a little too far:

A trip into town
Dear Parents,
I am trying to plan a walk around the city next week where we will record the sounds of the city for our Inquiry and music project. Before I can plan anymore I need to find out how many parents are able to follow along to help out for the day. The idea is for year 4 to spend a few hours going to different predetermined areas of the city to record sounds (this could be something like a building site, train station, shopping mall, etc). I was thinking of doing this next Friday morning between 9.00 and 12.30 (back for lunch), we will need at least 4 parent helpers for the day so we can make five groups. If you can help out please email me and if you would like to help out but can do it on Friday please email me with the day that you can. We might find that most parents can only help out on say, a Thursday for example. Why are we doing this? As you know we have started our Inquiry unit about cities and the infrastructures that keep a city running. When I was planning some of this unit I thought that it would be beneficial for the students to become connected to the city and to stop the unit from becoming just six weeks of research. Thinking along these lines reminded me of when I lived in the outback after high school and when I would drive eight hours to Sydney to visit friends. The first thing that struck me every time I got out of my car was the noise the city made and how many different noises there was. This is something we block-out when we constantly live in a city. So why can't we make a type of music using the noise of the city? What would the song of Göteborg be according to the students? I talked to Joel who liked the idea and together we made a plan to make an installation in the school to show others as well. We talked to Joe in art as well and he has developed a plan for the students to build an installation for the 'music'. By doing this we will be letting the students make an audio and visual sensory connection to our unit and to the city as well as to isolate different types of infrastructure and to see and hear how it works. Ultimately we will know if the project has worked if it changes our connection and view of what a city is and it makes others stop, listen, look, and think.
Regards, Christian.

School Jog
Dear Parents,
In September, school children all over Sweden are running for charity. All
money from this run goes to SOS Children’s Villages. If you would like to contribute, please bring money in an
envelope to your child’s mentor, who will forward the money to the School Jog
organization.
The children at ISGR will be running in Slottsskogen on the
second day of ISGR’s Health week, which is on Tuesday the 11th of September.
All children will meet in school as usual and walk together with their teachers
to Slottsskogen. We are organizing a class competition for students in ISGR.
Starting times:
- LPO 5 will start the run at 9:00.
- LPO 4 will start the run at 9:10.
- PYP 5 will start the run at 9:20.
- PYP 4 will start the run at 9:30.
- PYP 3 will start the run at 9:40.
- LPO 2-3 will start the run at 9:50.
- PYP 2 will start the run at 10:00.
- PYP 1 will start the run at 10:10.
- LPO F1 will start the run at 10:20.
This year, all grades will run the
same track, which is 1,400 m. The students will get to run as many laps as the
wish and they will collect points for the class for each lap they complete.
The children should wear clothes and
shoes suitable for running. They should bring an extra sweater in case of cold
weather and rain clothes in case of drizzle.
All children should bring a healthy packed
lunch since the children will not go to Bamba on this day. Remember that it is
very important to eat a good breakfast, especially on a day like this!!
You can visit www.skoljoggen.se,
if you wish to read more about the School Jog.
Best
regards,

Health week letter
HEALTH
WEEK
Dear
parents,
Next week (week 37) will be our popular Health Week
at school. From Monday to Friday, the school and your child’s class will be
engaged in all things healthy including the School Jog in Slottsskogen on
Tuesday. On the School Jog the children are running for charity and
all money goes to SOS Children’s
Villages. An idea to motivate your child to run more laps could be
to instead of bringing in 10 kr, you could contribute with maybe a few Kr per
lap they run. Obviously, that is totally up to you as a parent.
Your child will receive a health diary to fill in
over the five day week, we ask if you could help and encourage them in filling
out the diary and to get them to be more aware of what they eat and how they
look after themselves (hygiene and physical activity). We also ask if you could
have a quick look at what type snacks your child brings to school and if it is
possible to change it for any other healthier options.
Also, please remember that our Health Week is just
the start. So keep living a healthy lifestyle every week of the year.
Thank you for time and support,
The ISGR Health Committee
