Next week (week22)

I don't think they have these in Delsjön

Next Friday we will be having our canoeing trip to Delsjön. As you know we will be meeting in the carpark by the lake (8.30-8.50) and students will be picked up at the same spot (14.30). I have heard from most of the parents about how their child will be getting to and from the event, but I still have some students who have told me that they still do not know how they will be transported there and back. If you can't drive and or pick up or child on that day please email me so I can arrange a lift for them.

We will have hotdogs and juice for lunch but students will need to bring a few things with them;

  • snack(s)
  • water
  • appropriate clothing, this includes clothing that can dry quickly, like board shorts and swimming costume; rain jacket if it's raining; sun hat and sun screen
  • If they want to bring their own life jacket (the canoe place will supply us with life jackets)
  • A water proof bag for things like phones and wallets
Here is the map to the Delsjön

and here is how to get there from school:

View Larger Map Next Monday we will be having a small Maths quiz for Geometry, this will not be anything overly special or hard. I will be giving it to them to see and confirm where I think they are at in this unit. The students have been given all the materials they need over the the unit to study for the quiz (two photocopy booklets, problem solving sheet, maths practice book and their Geometry maths book). I will not be in next Monday but the whole day will be planned out for them.

Maths test goals and help

Edit: photocopies have been given out as well as the page renascences from the test book and maths practice book;
Text book

  • You will find work on division from page 314 on wards
  •  You can find a definition of what a composite and prime number is (pages 342 & 343)
Maths Practice Book
  • Pages 66 - 86
  • Prime and composite numbers p.85 (you will need to know what they are before you start on this page - see text book 342 & 343)
  • Division patterns to estimate p.77
Here is a great pdf that you can download and print out or just read, it gives a more in-depth definition of what I just went through above with worksheets. It doesn't cover everything and you don't have to worry about the section on percentage.

Maths test goals and help

As mentioned earlier this week we will be having our end of unit division test next Friday (18th Jan). Today I am going through what we are going to focus on in the test. I posted on the blog when we started our unit on division our learning goals from the IB. Our test on Friday will have all these elements in it, you can find that post here. Over the whole unit we have focused on these goals and nothing that the students will find in the test will be new or something they haven't done. Below is a more 'user friendly' wording of what students will be asked to express their knowledge of.

  • Patterns and rules in division can be found and used to help to solve problems and to be able to describe them using words, symbols and tables. Here is an example of one pattern in division:

  • Link division to repeated subtraction. Here is a video that explains what it is:
  • The inverse relationship between Division and Multiplication. Fact families are a good and easy way to demonstrate this relationship (/ symbol is used here as a division sign)
15 / 3 = 5
15 / 5 = 3
5 x 3 = 15
3 x 5 =15
  • Understand and use a sequence of operations; are you able to do long division? if you are, then you know the sequence of operations for long division.
  •  You are able to use and understand the language of division. The big ones are; factor, multiple, product, quotient, divisor, dividend, prime number, composite number, inverse (practice here)
  • To be able to use the language of fractions
  • Divide whole numbers
  • Know multiplication and division facts. mentally you know; 6 x 7 = 42 or 21 / 3 = 7
  • You will be able to use your division skills in real life situations (think of the word problems that we have been doing)
  • To be able to pick a method to use to find the answer (product). "Can I solve this mentally or is estimating better or should I work it out on paper?"
This is everything you need to know for the test. I will give you book references and photocopies to help you  review and refresh your knowledge. Here are some links to some online games that can help as well

Choir members!

To the members of the choir:

Lucia rehersal Tuesday the 11th of december:

As a member of the choir you will attend the Lucia assembly this year. Lucia will take place at the 13th of december but we will have a rehersal on the 11th.
On Tuesday the 11th of december you must be in small Bamba at our school at 8.20 in the morning. We will go to the Annedal church together for a rehersal. You need to bring your lucia clothes and a snack to the church.
We will be back in school for lunch at about 11.45.

On Thursday the 13th we will meet at 8.30 at Annedals church for the big event. The assembly will start at 9 o´clock. It is really important that you are in time at the church.

If you can´t meet at the church on the Thusrday you must be in ISGR entrance hall at 8 o´clock sharp and go with a teacher to the church.

Please let Emily know if you can´t meet at the church.

Annedals churh is the big church close to Sahlgrenska (the hospital)

lights at home?

Dear Parents,
As the holidays are fast approaching and we seldom get to see the sun I thought it would be nice to bring some light into our classroom. If you have some old (working) holiday lights that you are not using would it be possible for you to donate/loan them to the class. As we do not have anything in our classroom anything would be greatly appreciated :)

Maybe this is going a little too far:

4D have now started to develop a class blog for its students and parents. At the moment this is still in the development stage but more information will be added on a regular bases. Both classes will still be doing similar work and parents and students are welcome to take information from both. Please refer to your classes blog for specific things like homework as their will be changes in them from time to time.
